Trick or Treat! Rose is in heat!

November 8 - 14, 2002

Rose flies off to Nashville, TN for a rendezvous with Red, CH Neidfyre Vitta Rouge

December 2, 2002

Rose starting to show definite signs, we're quite hopeful at this point that we have a viable pregnancy!

Day 42. All systems go, we opted to skip the ultrasound, as we've got one very obviously pregnant Scottie here. Rose is all groomed up, bit the bullet and clipped her jacket down, plus a close clip on her face, neck, etc. She's frustrated now, since she can't quite reach a foot up to scratch at her now itchy cheeks, neck. I'm called in for duty to hand out scritches as needed!

Day 45. Appointment for xrays scheduled for tomorrow, I'm very nervous about this, visions of losing this litter  haunt my waking and sleeping hours.

December 27, 2002

Too early for xrays, calcification is just starting. Reschedule x-rays for January 6th!

January 6, 2002

X-Rays revealed 4 puppies, all about the same size. Have been able to easily feel movement for a week, these are 4 very busy puppies!

January 11, 2003

Labor started late in the evening. Very long delivery times for the first 3 puppies results in 3 lost puppies. One wheaten, two dark brindles. Fourth puppy gets stuck passing over Rose's pelvis, after a shot of Oxytocin, and continued pushing. Early morning on January 12th, I carefully wrap Rose up in a blanket, and rush to the emergency clinic. After much work, the vet on duty cannot dislodge the now dead puppy. I authorize an ultrasound, which reveals one more, surprise puppy waiting in the wings, still alive. One emergency section later, I have one beautiful red brindle female. Rose & her daughter spent the rest of Sunday, and overnight at the clinic, and Monday morning they are brought home. Due to Rose's very difficult weekend, the puppy girl is kept in a snuggly warming box, except to eat, and be mothered. This continued around the clock, every two hours Rose had her puppy, for the first two weeks. Our newest Aspenrose Scottie was named when she was just hours old, Sera, Aspenrose Bellasera. Bellasera in Italian means beautiful evening, a quite fitting name for this beautiful red brindle girl.
